    Convert Format of Training Program

A major training supplier had sold a multimedia training program in a CD-ROM format to a well-established, global travel agency in the early 1990s. After using the training for over a year, this company discovered that the program was not achieving the results in behavior change that was expected and asked the supplier to remedy the situation very quickly.

ALESYS was contracted to evaluate options that would satisfy this important Customer of this training supplier. We conducted focus groups in several countries in which the travel agency operated to determine why the training was not working. We learned that this Customer was not ready for an e-Learning format, lacking the technology in many locations to even use the training format. They were also dissatisfied with the lack of customization in scenarios depicted, language used, and skill practices designed. This packaged training approach was clearly failing the Customer.

ALESYS redeveloped the training content into a paper-based self-study format of short, focused lessons that built upon each other and led to an internal certification that was recognized with a small raise in pay. The materials were written to address the specific business of this Customer, using its own scenarios to drive skill practices with cultural and language models from several of its major regions.

This training supplier was able to save this important Customer by replacing the CD-ROM version of the training content with the new, more customized approach. The Customer was very pleased with the results, reporting that most of its staff had completed the training successfully within 8 months.

The supplier agreed that outsourcing their custom development to ALESYS was a very good business decision.
