Getting and keeping Customers takes much more than just business goals and objectives, great products, web pages, electronic channels and the newest hardware, software and equipment.  Certainly you need these goals and all the high-tech wizardry that you can find.  But all that really matters is satisfied Customers — loyal Customers who come back again and again.  And if your people lose sight of your Customers because they’re hidden behind the hardware, then you have a big problem to solve.

We all know that Customers are what it’s all about.  People buying our products and services keeps us in business.  Unfortunately, one bad experience can chase away a Customer who has been loyal for years.  Of course, when you start losing Customers, your first impulse is to “stop the bleeding.”  One response is to throw money at the problem, buying new or better equipment or hardware, investing in more sophisticated software, or launching a new marketing campaign. 

Sometimes these initiatives help, if only because they increase the overall number of Customers.  Often, however, you see little change in the bottom line.  You’ve spent lots of money, but really haven’t learned anything about the problem.
